This is the home for our first Ask the Expert (AtE) session. Post your questions on Dynamic Dashboards and DataFrame objects below, and Jack Lacava, Senior Solution Consultant at OneStream, will get back to you with a video answer right here in this space.Jack's guidance for what to bring:"Ask anything about implementing Dynamic Dashboards or using the new DataFrame objects in your rules!"How this worksPost your question as a new reply in this space. One question per post keeps things easy to track and answer. Ask as many as you'd like — there's no limit. This space is open now through end of day Friday, September 25. Jack will reply to your post with a video answer, right in the same thread. We'll do our best to get a video answer to every question — the more specific and implementation-focused your question, the better your odds of a great answer.A few tips for a great questionInclude context: what are you trying to accomplish, and what have you tried so far? Hi all, I would be interested in the best practice of nested dynamic dashboards, e.g. imagine, you want to create a dashboard, that allows you to dynamically list the Workflows a user has access to with the steps in the workflow and the current status. We’ve build something like this (see screenshot), but we aren’t sure, whether it is the best/recommended approach from the performance perspective.Would be nice if you could elaborate on this a bit. ThanksMarkus
Is there a way to work with / add fdx data in a dataframe?
Dynamic Dashboards and Modern Browser Experience. Development tends to take place in WinApp what are the considerations/tips architects should consider when adding the MBE layer for client use? Tips/Gotchas?
DataFrame question: Today we use DataTables and LINQ to perform operations such as multi-column GroupBy, aggregations (Sum, Count, Average), joins, filtering, and calculated columns. Do DataFrames support these types of data-shaping operations natively, and if so, are they generally more efficient than DataTable + LINQ for in-memory transformations? For example, replacing a multi-column GroupBy + Sum pattern like the one below: // Group by Entity, ProductType, ProductLine, Account, Channel, sum(LOCALAMOUNT)DataTable result = dt.AsEnumerable() .GroupBy(r => new { ENTITY = r.Field<string>("ENTITY"), PRODUCTTYPE = r.Field<string>("PRODUCTTYPE"), PRODUCTLINE = r.Field<string>("PRODUCTLINE"), ACCOUNT = r.Field<string>("ACCOUNT"), CHANNEL = r.Field<string>("CHANNEL") }) .Select(g => { DataRow row = dt.NewRow(); row["ENTITY"] = g.Key.ENTITY; row["PRODUCTTYPE"] = g.Key.PRODUCTTYPE;
Can you use dataframes to join data from multiple sources or join multiple dataframes into one? For example, a mapping table in an external database that we’d like to join to a custom table in the OS application database, before doing additional processing (grouping, aggregation, etc) on the joined data.
Can you give architects guidance as to when to utilize Data Frames with Dashboard development use cases and talk about whether this provides performance benefits balancing with Data Unit “physics”. What are the opportunities/limitations we should keep in mind with respect to the use of Data Frames with Dynamic Dashboards?
What are the prerequisites for using DataFrames e.g minimum platform version and what are some use cases for using DataFrames; instead of DataTables, for example?
We're seeing a repeatable UI issue on a Dynamic Grid component with several ParameterName-bound dropdown columns (Member List type), and I wanted to check whether this is a known issue or something we're missing in our configuration.Repro steps:Edit a dropdown-bound cell in one row (e.g. select a new value from the dropdown). Scroll the grid horizontally so that column is off-screen. Scroll back to bring the column back into view. Every row now shows the same value in that column — the one just selected — regardless of what each row's actual data is. Clicking Save immediately corrects the display back to the correct per-row values.What we've ruled out:This only happens on columns bound via ParameterName (dropdown editors). Plain text columns on the same grid, edited and scrolled the same way, never show this behavior. It's not a data/save issue — the underlying saved data is correct; this is purely a display problem that self-corrects on the next full grid refresh (i.e. after Save). It
I really want to understand and start using Assemblies, but every time I begin working with them, I run into gaps in my knowledge that block me, and I end up going back to the traditional approach.Could you show us how to build a dynamic dashboard based on Security Groups? The idea would be to use the same dashboard, but dynamically change a few components, such as Combo Boxes and Cube Views, depending on the user's Security Group.Also, I recently tried to use an Assembly to calculate and display in a Cube View the variance between two scenarios, based on the scenarios selected in Combo Boxes. I ended up building it using the traditional XFBR approach, but I would like to understand how this could be done using Assemblies instead.
